Grass Fed Beef
One of our favorite aspects of raising grass fed beef is developing a relationship with our customers. There's nothing more rewarding than being your source for healthy food-- being YOUR farmer.
Our beef customers play an important role in preserving the Pineywoods. Your support gives you a wholesome meal on your table and gives this heritage breed a clear purpose on our pastures and in local agriculture.
Our animals have been born and raised on grass on our farm. We do not supplement with byproducts or administer antibiotics. The herd grazes on 100 acres of pasture with bahaia and bermuda grass, millet, fescue, clovers, and winter rye. They always have access to fresh well water and shade/tree shelter.
A normal morning will find at least one of us out with the herd checking forage height, monitoring body condition, and often rotating the herd to a new pasture.
Pineywoods beef is lean, flavorful, and rich in Omega-3's.
One trait of these cattle is they are efficient grazers, eating not only grass and legumes but also nibbling on shrubs, vines, and tree leaves. Such a varied diet gives their meat extra nutrition and a dark, soft flavor.
The Pineywoods are one of only several breeds of cattle on the Slow Food USA's Ark of Taste, a profile of foods which are outstanding in flavor and quality yet at risk for being lost to homogenized agriculture.
Purchase Pineywoods Beef
We currently sell grassfed beef both custom and retail.
Custom is bulk, as in you buy a 1/4 to a whole animal. This is a relatively inexpensive way to have grassfed beef on hand all the time. All you need is a small to medium sized freezer.
Retail beef refers to those individual packages (usually vacuum sealed) that have our little farm label on them. We sell retail at Athens Locally grown, and also offer a farm deliver pickup location.
