Grass Fed Beef: From our fields to your table...
Philosophy Our animals have been born and raised on grass on our farm. We do not supplement with byproducts or administer hormones. The herd grazes on 100 acres of pasture with bahaia and bermuda grass, millet, fescue, clovers, and winter rye. They always have access to fresh well water and shade/tree shelter.
We see ourselves as stewards to our land and our animals. We are continually attending educational courses to learn more about soils and forages as well as animal nutrition. Our goal is to produce a delicious, natural beef that is 100% Georgia Grown. We are active members of Georgia Cattlemen's Association, the Livestock Conservancy, the Georgia Forage and Grassland Council, and Georgia Grown. Our beef customers play an important role in preserving the Pineywoods and heritage Herefords we raise. Your support gives you a wholesome meal on your table and gives this heritage breed a clear purpose on our pastures and in local agriculture. Quality in each package Our beef always comes from ONE single animal. You will never find ground beef or other cuts of multiple animals mixed together (unlike ground beef at the grocery store which often comes from hundreds of different animals). We use reputable, family owned processors that are inspected by the USDA or the Georgia Department of Agriculture. The processors we use treat the animals in the same humane manner that we require on the farm.
The beef is dry aged for 14 days to enhance flavor and tenderness. Cuts are labeled as to weight and name of cut. After careful vacuum sealing, the meat is frozen and then stored below O degrees F. All orders contain steaks, roasts, stew meat and about 50% ground beef. You may also want soup bones, liver and other specialty cuts. |
Flavor of the Land The grass fed beef we raise is flavorful and rich in Omega-3's. Chefs have praised the "flavor profile"! Customers tell us they can taste the difference. We believe the individual attention and care we give our finishing animals is reflected in a superior beef product.
The Pineywoods are one of only several breeds of cattle on the Slow Food USA's Ark of Taste, a profile of foods which are outstanding in flavor and quality yet at risk for being lost to homogenized agriculture. One trait of these cattle is they are efficient grazers, eating not only grass and legumes but also nibbling on shrubs, vines, and tree leaves. Our Heritage Herefords have been raised for generations in the same family since 1946 before "grain-fed" cattle was even a common practice. Their strong forage based genetics are reflected in the delicious beef they produce in our grass fed system. |
